What is Copyright Registration

The Copyright Act, 1957 (“Copyright Act”), supported by the Copyright Rules, 1958 (“Copyright Rules”), is the governing law for copyright protection in India. Substantial amendments were carried out to the Copyright Act, in early 2012 (“Amendment”). Some of the salient amendments have been discussed in this section. The Copyright Act provides that a copyright subsists in an original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work, cinematographic films, and sound recordings.

The catch here is that ideas, methods and procedures for mathematical operations cannot be copyrighted. With copyright registration it gives the original owner the peace of mind against the work he created or rewarded.

The copyright is usually valid for lifetime of the author and 60 years after the passing of the author the work would be under his name. It could protect the work from being copied but it does not deal with the reproduction of work in a modified form as that would be new thing all together.

At Unilex Consultants we provide you a hassle free registration process which would be dealt by our professionals within a time frame of 3-4 months and is subjective to governmental processing time. Our team takes care of the documentation and aids in provide you the realistic estimation of cost.

Advantages of Copyright Registration

Copyright registration promotes your unique piece of work, as you hold the rights for it, hence it acts as the best form of promoting your work.

It provides the author with a legal way to get to people who are stealing their work and making a living out of the efforts of the hard produced things.

These serve as prima facie evidence with reference to dispute relating to ownership of copyright. Certificate of registration is considered “admissible evidence” in the court of law.

Copyright protection ensures that the work we have legally registered would remain unique and none can claim rights over it.

The nature of work can be well defined with all the references hence that would make the procedure a bit easier and would also aid in better legal protection in terms of infringement.
